Organize the session before the artwork
A practice program may serve drills, mixed squads, academies or large training rosters. Decide which groups must be distinguishable on the ice and whether players keep the same identifier across sessions. This determines the color and number system.
A training identification system
| Training need | Design response |
|---|---|
| Opposing squads | Clearly separated dominant colors |
| Large rosters | Readable numbers against the graphic background |
| Multiple age groups | Group identifiers with separate size records |
| Repeat ordering | Controlled design code and new roster version |
Practice jersey direction
Sublimation with a purpose
Practice jerseys can carry all-over tonal patterns, shoulder graphics and color-coded panels while keeping identification clear. Reserve clean contrast around numbers; detailed graphics should support the training use rather than compete with it.
Prepare a reusable training brief
- List squads and the color assigned to each.
- Separate player, youth and goalie cuts.
- Confirm the chart and estimated quantities before final names are ready.
- Record which version is approved for future additions.
Match the training and game program
Use related artwork where useful, but keep practice quantities and approvals separate from home and away kits.
Practice-kit questions
Do practice jerseys need plain bodies?
No. Full sublimation can combine tonal graphics and team identity with clear training-group colors.
Can goalies match the practice squad?
Yes, review the same identity on the separately specified goalie cut.
What should a large-roster inquiry include?
Group colors, approximate quantities by cut, size-chart requirements, identification approach and destination.
